This is an amazing Civil War photo album. It has pictures of a Civil War Officer in uniform, pictures of him out of uniform, and pictures of his family. This antique photo album from the Civil War Era was signed and dated 1864. With this you get a candid look back at the real people shaping the United States. The American Civil War spanned from 1861-1865. It resulted from a dispute between the northern states and the southern states regarding slavery and cotton. Each side of the war had its own Civil War flag. The northern Civil War union flag was the normal 33 star flag that flew before the war started. As the war progressed and more states joined the country, the Civil War Union flag changed to the 34 and then the 35 star flags. The national government did not want to recognize the southern states claimed right to secession, which is why they kept all the stars on the Civil War Union flag. There were other American Civil War flags. The southern Confederate states had their own. The most popular one was the CSA 2nd National flag, which flew from 1863-1865.

In addition to different flags, the Civil War soldier uniform was different for each side. At the beginning, Civil War uniforms were determined by towns or states. It was confusing because Civil War clothing was not consistent. As the war progressed, the Civil War uniform worn by the Union was blue and the Confederate uniform was gray. When you look at Civil War pictures and American Civil War art paintings, the different uniforms and Civil War weapons including guns and swords can be seen. Civil War photographs are very collectible if they depict soldiers in uniform with Civil War medals, soldiers camping around their Civil War tents, and famous generals.
